Getting to Breckenridge

Flying In

Most out-of-state visitors fly into Denver International Airport (DEN), which sits about 90 miles east of Breckenridge — roughly a 1 hour 45 minute drive. Colorado Springs Airport (COS) is a second option at just over two hours out, and Eagle County Regional Airport (EGE) is the closest at about 1 hour 20 minutes. All three are served by major carriers, and every route in delivers a scenic drive over the Continental Divide.

Shuttle service is the easiest way in from DEN. Most operators run door-to-door and are set up to handle full luggage loads plus skis and snowboards. Companies serving Denver to Summit County:

Driving In

If you'd rather have your own vehicle, pick something that can handle mountain conditions and still fit your gear. Check GoI70.com to time your drive around the worst I-70 congestion, and pull up live road conditions at COTrip.org before you leave.

Our advice once you arrive: park the car at your rental and leave it there. Downtown is almost entirely pay-to-park and the lots fill early, especially on weekends. Free buses, the Main Street Trolley, and lodging shuttles will get you anywhere you need to go.

EV Charging

The Town of Breckenridge maintains more than 20 public EV charging ports around town, with additional ports in the South Gondola parking structure. If you're renting, an EV is a solid choice here.

Getting Around Without a Car

Breckenridge is genuinely walkable, and the free transit makes a car unnecessary for most trips. The Breck Free Ride bus system runs multiple routes throughout town all day, including the Main Street Trolley through the historic downtown core. Odds are good your lodging is either near a stop or runs its own complimentary shuttle.

Heading to a neighboring town? The Summit Stage is a free county-wide system connecting Breckenridge with Frisco, Dillon, Silverthorne, Keystone, and Copper. Uber, Lyft, taxis, and the Breck E-Ride bikeshare fill in the gaps.

Transit to Trails

Free Ride buses stop near several popular trailheads and carry two bikes per bus, so you can reach a hike or ride without driving. Summit Stage also runs a dedicated Transit to Trails service during the warm months.

Parking in Breckenridge

The town runs a smart parking system, so you can pay by credit card at a pay station or straight from your phone. Paid parking is in effect daily, rates average around a dollar per hour, and there's a daily maximum. Two things that catch visitors off guard:

• You have to pay again every time you move the vehicle to a new location.
• Fifteen minutes of free parking is available in most areas, but you still need to register your plate at a meter or in the app.

Skier Parking

The Free Skier Shuttle Lot on McCain Road, just outside downtown, offers free day parking from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. daily. No overnight parking is allowed between 11:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. The lot is served by the Free Ride Green and Red routes. Note that the former Airport Road Lot is permanently closed.

The town and Breckenridge Ski Resort jointly fund the free transit system serving the base areas. Use the My Free Ride app for real-time arrivals, or check Breck Free Ride for routes and schedules.

Overnight Parking

Paid overnight parking for passenger vehicles is available at the Stephen C. West Ice Arena and the Gold Run Nordic Center. Camping or sleeping in a vehicle is not permitted anywhere in town, including RVs and campers.

Oversized Vehicles & Trailers

Day and overnight parking for oversized vehicles and trailers is available at the Runway Oversize Lot. Reserve a space in advance — spots are limited. Again, no camping or sleeping in vehicles.

ADA Parking

Breckenridge provides signed ADA parking in compliance with Colorado State Statutes 42-3-204 and 42-4-1208. A valid ADA plate or placard allows you to use any designated ADA space, public or private, but standard parking fees still apply. The only exception in Colorado is the purple Remuneration Exempt Disability Parking Placard. See the parking map for ADA space locations.
