Breckenridge Opening Day 2018
Posted by Shannon Sinnard | Friday, October 26, 2018

It’s official! The Breckenridge Ski Resort is slated to open for the 2018/2019 Ski Season on Wednesday, November 7, 2018! And with nearly 70” of snow having already fallen so far this season, many are hopeful this may be one of the snowiest Opening Days yet! So, to celebrate, the Breckenridge Ski Resort is promising to pull out all the stops with a celebration bigger and better than ever! Starting off the season in style with music, parties, competitions and more, one thing is for sure – no one kicks off a season like Breckenridge.

Although Breck’s opening will come on the heels of other Summit County Ski Resorts, Arapahoe Basin and Keystone, Opening Weekend in Breckenridge is truly a one of kind, fantastic experience that brings in dozens of anxious skiers and snowboarders ready to share their passion (and get a possible Opening Day Themed Epic Mix Pin) with other like-minded snow enthusiasts. Giddy with excitement to ring in the Colorado Winter with fresh tracks on freshly groomed slopes, these skiers and riders alike are eager to get their snow legs back by taking that first long downhill descent on the infamous Four O’Clock Run and remember that glorious burn we all grow so accustomed to by season’s end.

❄ 2018/2019 Opening Day Weekend Schedule of Events :

Beginning at 7am, be sure to  visit one of the participating coffee shops before supplies run out!

Opening Day, Friday November 9 : Start of your season on the right foot, or should we say ski!? Friday November 9th will mark the beginning of another exciting Ski Season in Breckenridge and with is brings the promise of snowy first laps, a DJ spinning tracks, performances by local musicians and much more! Visitors are encouraged to get here early to catch all the action – chairs are scheduled to start turning at 9am.

The Winter Kickoff, Friday November 9 : To kickoff Winter, take part in a community celebration at the Breckenridge Backstage Theater. Enjoy a film by the Breckenridge Ski Resort and a talk with OpenSnow’s Joel Gratz. Tickets are free, but a donation to your favorite nonprofit is highly encouraged!

Carpe Vino! The Breckenridge Food & Wine Festival Returns For Another Year
Posted by Shannon Sinnard | Friday, July 20, 2018

breckenridge food and wine festivval

Although Colorado is largely known for beer, that doesn’t mean that it has its shortage of wine festivals.. Namely in the high country. The Breckenridge Food and Wine Festival, for instance, transforms the beautiful old mining town into a tasty, mountain-side vineyard offering up over 300 wine samples, live music and tasty bites to accompany each varietal. Scheduled for Friday July 27 - Sunday July 29, 2018 in Breckenridge, CO this event promises a unique, wine-tasting experience with vintages ranging from the soft and smooth to the unabashedly bold. Better yet, this year the festival will expand beyond its original  borders at Main Street Station to include The Village at Breckenridge, making room for more varietals, artisans, food and even a few beer selections and wine cocktail mixers.

While attendees are assured to get more than their fair share of delicious sips at the Saturday Grand Tasting event, the fun doesn’t stop there! Other weekend events will include the opportunity to make Mozzarella from scratch, learn how to pair delectable foods with wines that compliment them flawlessly, the opportunity to attend a decadent food and wine pairing dinner at Sauce on the Maggie and the chance to enter to win a trip to Napa Valley.

To kick off the weekend, the Breckenridge Food and Wine Pairing Dinner on Friday, July 27 at Sauce on the Maggie will have attendees reveling in the deep flavors and aromas that make wine and cuisine so special. From the presentation to the pour, a Wine Specialist will provide rich insights into the pairing process while the featured chef will share the inspiration behind the fare selections. A dinner of pure heart and soul overlooking water and mountains accompanied with live music, this dinner promises to be the next best thing to dining at a vineyard.

On Saturday, the big tasting gets underway at 1:00pm for VIP’s and 2:00pm for general admission ticket holders. A prestigious tasting adventure, this event is more than just your average “wine sampling.” Taking place at the bottom on Peak 9, guests will receive a commemorative glass for their unlimited wine samples; all while live music tempts the ear, fulfilling the realm of the senses. Festival food will also be offered by several vendors available a la carte for purchase.

To round out the weekend, the Sauce at the Maggie will host a Sunday Brunch and Wines at 11:00am, offering guests the chance to relish the bubbly and celebrate the vine.  Leading women in the world of wine will be on-site to share their insights on the industry while guests savor specialty white wine mixers like sangrias and mimosas paired with delicious food.

So whatever your flavor, the Breckenridge Food and Wine Festival is sure to have something for you!

► Glow Worm Parade | 5.45p | Peak 9 Breckenridge
What could be better for the kiddos than the chance to be in a parade?? How about a parade on SKIS, at NIGHT with GLOWSTICKS!? Enter, the Glow Worm Parade. All confident ski & riders ages 5-13 are welcome to participate in this one of a kind, annual New Years Eve event in Breckenridge. Watch as these little powder hounds, donning glowsticks while careening down green terrain on Peak 9, give off the appearance of a New Year’s glow warm.

Registration for the parade starts at 5 pm and is located at the Beaver Run Ski and Ride School. Parade starts at 5.45p immediately followed by the Torchlight Parade at 6p. Glow Worm participants must be able to stop and turn on green terrain. Weather permitting.

► Torchlight Parade | 6 pm | Peak 9 Breckenridge
A long-standing tradition in Breckenridge, watch as the pros of the Breckenridge Ski & Ride School take the hill and carry torches from the top of Peak 9 down to the base area. Although visible from almost anywhere in town, we recommend grabbing a warm cocktail on the expansive decks of either the Maggie or Coppertop Bar for optimal viewing. Weather permitting.

► Fireworks |  9pm

New Years Eve Nightlife Options

Although most bars throughout town will celebrate with drink or shot specials and a champagne toast, here are a couple of our suggestions to Ring In The New Year.

► Beaver Run | 620 Village Rd
Although the Base 9 bar (located at the ground level of Beaver Run Resort) will be open to the public with DJ and drink specials, Beaver Run is also offering several tiered VIP packages for their all out New Year’s Eve bash, starting at $49/person. For access to the exclusive party at Coppertop Bar (including Dancing and DJ) upgrade your experience to the Silver package. Want more? Add on another bar, Imperial Room, along third DJ & food buffet by upgrading to the Gold package. Or, send off 2017 in style by treating yourself to the Platinum package granting access to the VIP ICE bar along with VIP table & personal bottle of champagne. At the stroke of midnight, ring in 2018 with noisemakers and party favors abound along with a free champagne toast. Purchase Tickets

► Ceclia's | 520 S Main St |
Ranked Among The 10 Hottest Dance Clubs in Colorado by Best Things CO, Cecelia’s is one of Summit County’s liveliest dance clubs where the party goes well into the wee hours on New Year’s Day. Toast to 2018 with a glass of champagne in one hand and the bar’s stripper pole in the other. Wanna cut out the line and wait for drinks? Cecelia’s is one of the only venues in Breckenridge offering bottle service.

► Liquid Lounge | 520 S Main St #2
Another good option for those looking to get rowdy with perhaps a bit of debauchery. This lively venue promised a lively night out with DJs and dancing.

► Blue Stag | 323 S Main St |

► MotherLoaded Tavern | 103 S Main St |
For a more casual atmosphere that still holds plenty of fun, visit the Motherloaded Tavern. This year, El Passo Laso will be playing covers from the 80s, 90s and today from 10p-1a. Small cover…BIG party!

►RMU | 114 S Main St |
Transport yourself somewhere tropical with Tropical Waffle playing tropical house music all night long at RMU Tavern.

► The Historic Brown | 206 N Ridge St |
For another live music option, head over to the recently remodeled Historic Brown to catch Tnertle w/ TruFeelz. Toast the locals at midnight with free champagne while enjoying a night spent dancing and singing cover free! But, get here early – The Historic Brown reached full capacity last year at 9pm!

► Apres Handcrafted Libations | 130 S Main St |
Back for the 4th year in a row, the Bubbles and Beer NYE Party at Apres is a favorite amongst locals.  Order one of the original champagne cocktails from the special NYE menu or choose from one of their 70+ craft beers on tap with the money that you’ll save not paying a cover here!

New Years Day

Skiing/Riding : Believe it or not, this is arguably one of the best days of the year to catch first chair and early morning tracks. Due to the nature of most New Year’s Eve celebrations, the mountain remains fairly quiet the morning of January 1st.

Resolution Run : Ready to kick start that New Year’s Resolution? This 5k snow run (or snowshoe) is a great way to start the new year off on the right foot followed by a post-race party, finisher gifts and prizes round out the event.  Click Here for registration and details.

A Word From Ski Country : At Ski Country, we never encourage drinking and driving! Which is why we offer our unique and personalized Shuttle Service to all guests (extended hours on New Year Eve). We encourage all guests to utilize this free service (tips appreciated) when staying with Ski Country Resorts. Although we do try our best to maintain a prompt & reliable service, during busy times & holidays our service may be a bit delayed. Other options available are Uber (recently debuted in Breckenridge) as well as the local free bus (oftentimes the most reliable source of transportation – other than your own two feet). On New Years Eve The Breckenridge Free Ride offers special late-night service (until 2:15 a.m.)

The Breckenridge International Festival of Arts is Back for it's third consecutive year!
Posted by Shannon Sinnard | Tuesday, August 15, 2017

Having a big hand in Breckenridge recently being named one of the country’s “artsiest small towns” by Westword Magazine, the 2017 Breckenridge International Festival of Arts (BIFA) has returned for its third season. Stretching over a 10-day time span, this quirky, one of a kind display of assorted visual, musical and interactive exhibits has quickly become one of Breckenridge’s most popular festivals… Rounding out a Summer packed full of them! "We really like the idea of closing the summer with a big, spectacular multi-arts festival" Robb Woulfe, president and CEO of Breck Create told the Summit Daily in 2016.

A program of extraordinary events in spectacular places and spaces across Breckenridge, this multi-arts festival is a celebration that brings with it an eclectic mix of music, dance, film, visual arts, abundance of family entertainment and so much more! And this year, the festival promises to be bigger and better than ever. Beginning with the chief installment, Monuments, presented by internationally acclaimed projection artist Craig Walsh. Already an internet sensation, Monuments will be a tribute to three Breckenridge characters (changing nightly) that have shaped Breckenridge to date by casting oversized projections of their faces across strategically selected topiaries throughout town. Although many of the Breckenridge International Festival of Art’s displays and exhibits will be temporary, this one will span throughout the length of the festival, lighting up nightly.

But Monuments is just one of many on the expansive list of exhibits and activities scheduled for the 2017 Festival of Arts. A celebration of adventure, play and creativity, guests and locals alike will enjoy multiple daily attractions and events throughout Breckenridge inspired by themes of environment and mountain culture (most free, some ticketed). From Close-Act Theatre’s Birdmen, a spectacular piece of street art theatre featuring stilt-walkers outfitted as large, illuminated pterodactyl-like creatures descending upon downtown Breckenridge to the interactive, kid-friendly performance titled Ants, by Polyglot Theatre, that brings children face to face with three giant ants and hundreds of giant bread crumbs and the query of what to do with them. A quick glance at the schedule and it’s clear, a large focus this year is children. From a Nature Discovery Walk with the Mountain Top Children’s Museum and Birdwatching with Keystone Science School to planting an herb garden, building a birdfeeder and bug home to creating a Mountain Mosaic, painted ‘gnome rocks’ and Beeswax + Pine artwork no doubt the festival is going to be jam packed with activities for the youngsters.

And then there’s the popular Trail Mix Series. A kid and adult friendly activity that has been a hit in past years. These free outdoor concerts and environmental installations combine art, music and hiking/biking along well-known Breckenridge trails. This year’s schedule includes 27 of these pop up performances along the popular Iowa Hill, Moonstone and Illnois Creek Trails.

Other featured 2017 BIFA artists and projects include: Los Trombos, colorful, large scale sculptures on display on the Arts District Campus. Driftwood by Casus Circus, a performance of seemingly impossible feats of brute strength. Itchy-O, a 30-plus-piece marching band drawing its inspiration from several different cultures. Tree-O, a series of concerts held high among the pine branches.
