Breckenridge 2019 Opening Day

This is it, folks! The countdown is finally winding down and we are less than 24 hours away from Breckenridge’s 2019 Opening Day! And with the octSNOWber we experienced up here in high country (the snowiest October on record), this Opening Day is sure to be one for the books!

With over 50″ of accumulated powder from early winter snow storms across the state, Breckenridge is set to start turning their lifts at 9am on Friday morning (November 8, 2019) and offering up nearly 200 acres of ski/rideable terrain. Beter yet, the Ski Resort is promising a Ski Season that will be “better than ever” with upgraded snow making equipment and the opening of the new Peak 8 Base area! This new base area at Peak 8 will offer a town bus stop and skier drop-off with an expanded plaza accessible via escalators. The plaza will house a day care for Breckenridge Ski Resort guests, an upgraded ski and ride school, a new lift ticket office, rental shop and more! What was once scattered services along the Peak 8 base will now be convienently housed in one centralized building. Other new and exciting amenities will include a coffee shop, a heated slopeside plaza with seating and an ice rink (to be converted to a sports court in Summer) overlooking the valley.

And we can’t forget about Breckenridge’s unofficial mascot, ULLR! By next summer, a proposed 25-foot statue of the Nordic God of Snow himself will be placed in the new Peak 8 plaza near the Rocky Mountain SuperChair. This statue will feature Ullr shooting a snowflake arrow toward the top of the peak. And what perfect timing, with the town of Breckenridge announcing they will be rescheduling the annual Breckenridge Ullr Festival for December 11-15, 2019 (instead of its past January dates) allowing everyone an additional month of Winter to praise the cold-loving, bow-wielding Patron Saint of Skiers.

“I couldn’t be more excited for Breck to open on Friday, to debut the new Peak 8 Base Area and to offer such incredible early season terrain for our skiers and riders,” said John Buhler, Breckenridge Ski Resort’s vice president and chief operating officer.

We, at Ski Country Resorts, couldn’t agree more! Exciting things are happening in Breckenridge and we can’t wait to be a part of it! Join us, won’t you?
