Breckenridge Opening Day 2018
Posted by Shannon Sinnard | Friday, October 26, 2018

It’s official! The Breckenridge Ski Resort is slated to open for the 2018/2019 Ski Season on Wednesday, November 7, 2018! And with nearly 70” of snow having already fallen so far this season, many are hopeful this may be one of the snowiest Opening Days yet! So, to celebrate, the Breckenridge Ski Resort is promising to pull out all the stops with a celebration bigger and better than ever! Starting off the season in style with music, parties, competitions and more, one thing is for sure – no one kicks off a season like Breckenridge.

Although Breck’s opening will come on the heels of other Summit County Ski Resorts, Arapahoe Basin and Keystone, Opening Weekend in Breckenridge is truly a one of kind, fantastic experience that brings in dozens of anxious skiers and snowboarders ready to share their passion (and get a possible Opening Day Themed Epic Mix Pin) with other like-minded snow enthusiasts. Giddy with excitement to ring in the Colorado Winter with fresh tracks on freshly groomed slopes, these skiers and riders alike are eager to get their snow legs back by taking that first long downhill descent on the infamous Four O’Clock Run and remember that glorious burn we all grow so accustomed to by season’s end.

Visitors are encouraged to get here early to catch all the action – chairs are scheduled to start turning at 9am.

All confident ski & riders ages 5-13 are welcome to participate in this one of a kind, annual New Years Eve event in Breckenridge. Watch as these little powder hounds, donning glowsticks while careening down green terrain on Peak 9, give off the appearance of a New Year’s glow warm.

New Years Day

Skiing/Riding : Believe it or not, this is arguably one of the best days of the year to catch first chair and early morning tracks. Due to the nature of most New Year’s Eve celebrations, the mountain remains fairly quiet the morning of January 1st.

Resolution Run : Ready to kick start that New Year’s Resolution? This 5k snow run (or snowshoe) is a great way to start the new year off on the right foot followed by a post-race party, finisher gifts and prizes round out the event.  Click Here for registration and details.

A Word From Ski Country : At Ski Country, we never encourage drinking and driving! Which is why we offer our unique and personalized Shuttle Service to all guests (extended hours on New Year Eve). We encourage all guests to utilize this free service (tips appreciated) when staying with Ski Country Resorts. Although we do try our best to maintain a prompt & reliable service, during busy times & holidays our service may be a bit delayed. Other options available are Uber (recently debuted in Breckenridge) as well as the local free bus (oftentimes the most reliable source of transportation – other than your own two feet). On New Years Eve The Breckenridge Free Ride offers special late-night service (until 2:15 a.m.)

The Breckenridge International Festival of Arts is Back for it's third consecutive year!
Posted by Shannon Sinnard | Tuesday, August 15, 2017

Having a big hand in Breckenridge recently being named one of the country’s “artsiest small towns” by Westword Magazine, the 2017 Breckenridge International Festival of Arts (BIFA) has returned for its third season. Stretching over a 10-day time span, this quirky, one of a kind display of assorted visual, musical and interactive exhibits has quickly become one of Breckenridge’s most popular festivals… Rounding out a Summer packed full of them! "We really like the idea of closing the summer with a big, spectacular multi-arts festival" Robb Woulfe, president and CEO of Breck Create told the Summit Daily in 2016.

A program of extraordinary events in spectacular places and spaces across Breckenridge, this multi-arts festival is a celebration that brings with it an eclectic mix of music, dance, film, visual arts, abundance of family entertainment and so much more! And this year, the festival promises to be bigger and better than ever. Beginning with the chief installment, Monuments, presented by internationally acclaimed projection artist Craig Walsh. Already an internet sensation, Monuments will be a tribute to three Breckenridge characters (changing nightly) that have shaped Breckenridge to date by casting oversized projections of their faces across strategically selected topiaries throughout town. Although many of the Breckenridge International Festival of Art’s displays and exhibits will be temporary, this one will span throughout the length of the festival, lighting up nightly.

But Monuments is just one of many on the expansive list of exhibits and activities scheduled for the 2017 Festival of Arts. A celebration of adventure, play and creativity, guests and locals alike will enjoy multiple daily attractions and events throughout Breckenridge inspired by themes of environment and mountain culture (most free, some ticketed). From Close-Act Theatre’s Birdmen, a spectacular piece of street art theatre featuring stilt-walkers outfitted as large, illuminated pterodactyl-like creatures descending upon downtown Breckenridge to the interactive, kid-friendly performance titled Ants, by Polyglot Theatre, that brings children face to face with three giant ants and hundreds of giant bread crumbs and the query of what to do with them. A quick glance at the schedule and it’s clear, a large focus this year is children. From a Nature Discovery Walk with the Mountain Top Children’s Museum and Birdwatching with Keystone Science School to planting an herb garden, building a birdfeeder and bug home to creating a Mountain Mosaic, painted ‘gnome rocks’ and Beeswax + Pine artwork no doubt the festival is going to be jam packed with activities for the youngsters.

And then there’s the popular Trail Mix Series. A kid and adult friendly activity that has been a hit in past years. These free outdoor concerts and environmental installations combine art, music and hiking/biking along well-known Breckenridge trails. This year’s schedule includes 27 of these pop up performances along the popular Iowa Hill, Moonstone and Illnois Creek Trails.

Other featured 2017 BIFA artists and projects include: Los Trombos, colorful, large scale sculptures on display on the Arts District Campus. Driftwood by Casus Circus, a performance of seemingly impossible feats of brute strength. Itchy-O, a 30-plus-piece marching band drawing its inspiration from several different cultures. Tree-O, a series of concerts held high among the pine branches.
