This season the country has experienced relatively low snow totals compared to last year, and several ski resorts are trying anything to bring in some fresh powder. Breckenridge and many other ski resorts around Summit County are calling on a “higher power” to bring the white fluffy stuff to the area. Here in Breckenridge we celebrated our annual Ullr Fest to honor the Norse god of snow. Ullr Fest is a weeklong celebration to praise the snow god, Ullr, in hopes that he will bless us with snow. All of us here at Ski Country Resorts even made a Pray for Snow Tebow float for the Ullr parade, If Ullr can’t than Tebow Can, was our theme (very clever, we know). In Vail they brought in a Southern Ute Indian Tribe to perform a ‘snow dance’ in hopes that they could get enough snow to open their back bowls. And finally after weeks of hoping, praying to Ullr and Tebow, snow dancing, and snow festivals Mother Nature blessed Breckenridge and the rest of Summit Country with the biggest storm we have seen this season. Here in Breckenridge we have received 32” last week, and Keystone and Vail received 28”. We are all hoping this is a trend of what is to come for the rest of the season, but we guess it wouldn’t hurt to do some praying or some snow dancing.

Here in Breckenridge we just wrapped up our 49th annual Ullr Festival, and all of the praying to Ullr (Norse God of Snow) looks like it paid off! As we type, the big, fat, fluffy white flakes that we’ve been yearning for are falling down.. with purpose! As the day has worn on, the inches continue to accumulate and according to weather reports this is only the beginning! With a predicted 40% (or more!) chance of precipitation for the rest of the week, you can almost hear the entire town breathe a cummulative deep sigh of relief. The drought is over! Thank you Ullr!
